RIP HB AOC

28 Jul 2008, 20:36

Most of HB core and leadership has now left AOC.

And it is obvious for most that for now, AOC has nothing of value to offer. We have therefor decided that further development of HB in AOC is suspended until further notice.

It don't have to be a secret that the last few days up to my own cancellation I felt deceived and betrayed by Funcom. It looked so promising. Shortly after release I thought that this could turn out to exceed everyones expectations. And I think many where surprised at how many old timers showed up again. It was simply amazing seeing all those familiar names poping up all over the place, here on the forum and even ingame. Specied with meeting many new friends, and former allies.
When we reached over 60 members in our AOC rooster I knew we had something special brewing. I don't think we where really prepared for that kind of success. AOC was only meant as a pass time while we waited for Warhammer Online, iknow it turned out that way in the end anyway, but after the first few weeks I thought HB and myself would have to spread our members and sparetime over 2 games.

I feel we gave AOC our best. We fought, explored, crafted and built. It is funny seeing total strangers hoping for Hired Blades return to the battle field, hoping for a challenging PvP fight. And it feels great that in our short lifespan we managed to make a mark on the server. It is a shame FunCom released the game in the state it was in at release. Down the line AOC has great possibilities. But in its current state it is like beta testing. Crafting, feats, abilities, interface, pathing, grouping, raiding, chatting all basic things in this day and age needs to be looked at before the game is ready for version 1.0, in my opinion. But even with all its faults, i don't regret getting exited about AOC. We had fun, I had fun anyway, and that is what it was about.

There have been talks about merging with one or more guilds. But as so many core members has already left, it has been decided that HB will leave our keep as monument of what we achieved in our all to short life time in AOC. Those still active are free to stay or leave as they please. When the last leader sub expires the last chance for a guild invite run out. As I write this that may already have happened sadly.

Feel free to vent if you got something on you're chest. For me HB in AOC is dead, if you feel otherwise and is ready to prove me wrong, now is the time.

I hope to see all our new (and old) friends in Warhammer Online, you are all welcome. Join the WAR forum usergroup asap and get in on the speculations and friendly banter.

HAIL =)

kinda same thoughts here.

shame that lolcom actually did what they did, they had good game in their hands, but as every1 knows MMORPG business is cruel.
u cant afford mistakes like lolcom did, and every1 knows why they did it at the 1st place, they needed more cash but not every game hits to peeps like WoW did.

but the things what we old farts managed to do in bori server was something good.
Keep T3 , battle keep , and loads Wins in PVP games, and i think i lost im my AoC career 3 games total =)
Shame pets kills were bugged so Filip got all of them, lol

Same here...

FunCom definitely released the game at least half year early... Otherwise they couldn't have those bugs they have and they would have features working or pretty close to that...

Still, game was fun... while it lasted.

I enjoyed the game, but started to get feed up when I was lagging every single day and couldn't do bugger all! I did play to re-join after awhile but after hearing the news about being 100% magic immune I lost spirit in the game. And then everyone quit! So I had no reason to go back :)

I was always looking forward to WH more anyway ;)

Spirit? I am here!!

Anyway, I was saying it in beta that game couldn't be ready. And tbh, I was pretty surprised at release as game was way better than latest beta I played. Still though needed more time. Anyway, was a nice way to get the loonies back together! :)

Now looking forward to WAR (and Stargate). Darkfall? Maybe our grandchildren!

It had so much potential and ideas!

but when it reached engame it just lost its charme.. the potential was gone and the ideas were not implementet.

Just couldn't play anymore. Totally bored with the game from one day to the next.
Just couldn't be bothered to log in.

Need a break from these games. Haven't touched a game since I stoppped AoC.
Perhaps WAR. But it was good to see guild members in game again. :D

heh, I got it worse as my auto was for 3 months which means it still has time to run till it ends... 8O

Anyway, Europa Universalis 3 (along with the expansion released same week with AoC) and Mass Effect are pretty good distractions along with a couple betas i am in :)
